The Korean Pine produces the largest of the edible pine nuts.
A native of North Eastern Asia, it has excellent tasting nuts that are oily, rich and robust in flavour. A slow grower until the roots take hold usually around five years of age. At maturity, they will thrive in full sun but as young seedling they require moderate shade. Nut production will start at nine years age on average but can take up to fifteen years in some cases.
Growers Note: Korean Pine has long been known to have difficulties in transplanting. For best results try planting in well drained sandy acidic soils. Alternatively collect soil from locations where pines grow naturally and add it to the planting hole. Our trees have been inoculated to help the tree better adapt in the transplanting process.
