The American Plum is mainly used as a native pollinator tree planted alongside your favourite hybrid variety, it will ensure that your other plum trees give you a better harvest!
The American Plum produces yellow-red blushed plums that ripen in September. These plums average around 3 cm (1 1/4') in size and are good for fresh eating but are even better for making preserves, skin a little thick but excellent flesh.
Native to Eastern Canada yet grows as far west as Manitoba, the American Plum tree has a longer flowering cycle and excellent pollen volume to effectively pollinate other plum trees. Hybrids do flower but have a poor pollen count, if your plum trees are still not producing fruit the American Plum will help. This one flowers earlier than then our other native Canadian Plum.
Trees are thicket forming, have thorns and sucker freely.
