American plum is a wild plum native to Eastern Canada, growing as far west as Manitoba.  This plum tree has a longer flowering cycle and excellent pollen volume to effectively pollinate plum trees. Most plums besides the European plums are hybrids such as our common Japanese and American plums. These hybrids do flower but have a poor pollen count to effectively pollinate other plums. If you’re plum trees are still not producing fruit, the American plum will help. It flowers earlier than then our other wild plum (Canadian Plum). Trees are thicket forming, have thorns and sucker freely. Produces yellow-red blushed plums that ripen in September. Fruit average around 3 cm in size and are good for fresh eating but are even better for making excellent preserves.
